This New Costco Find Is My Favorite—I'm Obsessed

A few years ago, while browsing the aisles of Costco looking for all At the sample booths – as we do on Sample Sundays – I came across a new sauce: Bachan's Japanese barbecue sauce. Served with Kirkland Signature Italian Meatballs (a strange but innovative combination), this sweet and tangy sauce has quickly become a favorite.

Since then, I've always kept a bottle of Bachan's in my apartment, and it's become a go-to sauce whenever I need a quick meal. You can imagine my excitement when Bachan released a variety pack at Costco. I used it all summer!

Why I love Bachan Variety Pack

Three reasons: Yuzu, Miso and Hot & Spicy. These are the new flavors included in Costco's variety pack, and as a sauce lover (my favorites have a permanent place on my kitchen counter), all I can say is that I'm obsessed.

The flavor of yuzu gets its tangy acidity from the yuzu fruit, a citrus fruit that tastes like a cross between a lemon, grapefruit and orange. The miso sauce is nutty and full of umami. In fact, according to Bachan, they use red And white miso for a robust and “incredibly flavorful” taste.

The tangy, spicy flavor adds a bit of heat to the traditional Bachan flavor, a good starter spice level for those with a lower spice tolerance. Personally, I would have preferred it spicier, which is why I can't wait to try the brand's new flavor: Hella Hot.

Each sauce is radically different and offers a unique flavor profile while maintaining the sweet and savory teriyaki flavor of beloved Bachan. I have yet to come across another teriyaki brand as tasty as Bachan's.

How I use Bachan sauces

How I use Bachan sauces usually depends on what I'm craving, but my favorite in the summer is barbecue sauce. Whether it's roasting chicken skewers for one on my mini yakitori grill or whipping up a protein spread on my charcoal grill, these sauces are an easy way for me to enjoy the season. summer grills.

Once the protein is partially cooked, I layer it with the sauce of the day (I alternate between the three) and let it caramelize. Mirin, an ingredient found in all teriyaki sauces, caramelizes as the sauce cooks on the stove, leaving a delicious char. I usually make this a complete meal with a bowl of rice and simple roasted vegetables.

When I can't be bothered to stay outside in the scorching summer heat, I use Bachan's as a dip for store-bought dumplings and chicken nuggets, as a glaze for indoor Korean barbecue, as quick marinade for sheet pan dishes, and even as a salad dressing. The options are endless.

Bachan's considers its products to be versatile sauces, stating that they are good as “a sauce or marinade on meat, fish, vegetables, rice and everything in between” and shares recipes for fans on his website and Instagram account. Recently, I enjoyed her Umami Smashed Potatoes and Beef Miso Gyudon Bowl.
