The $6.99 ALDI Find I'll Be Using for Years to Come

I’ll never forget the look on my four-year-old daughter’s face when I gave her her own thermos to take a hot lunch with her to preschool. She was beaming. It was a big-girl gift, complete with backpack and lunch box, and I could feel the excitement radiating off her.

I love sharing these moments with my kids and I try to do what I can to make them feel extra special. So when I saw that ALDI was offering these adorable insulated food containers as part of their back-to-school finds, I had to share their excitement.

At just $6.99, the Crofton insulated container is a fraction of the price of the big brands. I think I paid $20 (or more) for my daughter's kid's thermos, so this find makes me feel like I won the lunch box lottery.

Why I love ALDI insulated containers

The 13.5-ounce container comes in four cute, kid-friendly colors. In addition to the simple black option, ALDI offers a range of trendy pastel options with a light purple, mauve, and blue base. Double-wall vacuum insulation keeps food hot (or cold) for hours, and the durable stainless steel construction means it can handle being tossed in a backpack.

My favorite features are the leak-proof lid and the built-in collapsible spoon, which has its own compartment for the spoon! My daughter's $20 thermos didn't come with any cutlery. Now there's no excuse not to bring utensils home. Hooray!

How to use the ALDI vacuum insulated container

Sandwiches and quesadillas are a staple of takeout, but having a quality container has opened up a world of lunch possibilities. Our family’s favorites include homemade chicken soup or chickpea noodle soup, which stays warm in the container until lunchtime.

My daughter also loves breakfast (or dinner) and is thrilled when I make her oatmeal with fresh berries for lunch. It’s a nutritious treat that tastes like dessert. Cheese tortellini and macaroni and cheese are always a hit. I add veggies for an extra nutritional boost. And these burritos, a great store-bought option, are ready in two minutes and keep well as a grab-and-go lunch.

Having access to hot and cold lunch options has encouraged my daughter to eat healthier and more varied meals. And while it’s not always successful, she generally enjoys the novelty of being able to open a hot lunch in the middle of the school day.

For just $6.99, it’s a small investment that will improve your kid’s lunch game (for the better) for a long, long time. It’s cute, durable, practical, and incredibly cost-effective. Plus, it has this cute built-in spoon!
