This Is the Best Tomato Sandwich To Make All Summer Long

To make a tomato sandwich, you only need three ingredients: white bread, mayonnaise, and fresh tomatoes. It's delicious as is, and that's how I eat it most often.

There are, however, countless ways to elevate a tomato sandwich. Add avocado, lettuce, sweet onion, or thick slices of sharp cheddar cheese: these are my favorite recipes to elevate the sandwich I eat all summer long.

Recently, I saw @chelseasmessyapron on TikTok making her famous cucumber sandwiches. She added a three-ingredient spread to her sandwiches. It’s a simple mix of cream cheese, mayonnaise, and a packet of Hidden Valley Ranch seasoning. I wanted to try the spread on a tomato sandwich, and it did not disappoint!

How to make my tomato sandwich with ranch spread

To make a sandwich you will need:

  • 1 block (8 ounces) cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 packet (1 ounce) Hidden Valley Ranch seasoning
  • 2 slices of white bread
  • 1 ripe tomato, sliced
  • 1 ripe avocado, sliced (optional)

Mix the cream cheese, mayonnaise, and ranch dressing in a small bowl. It will be easier to mix if the cream cheese is at room temperature. This makes way more spread than you'll need for one sandwich, but don't worry! You can keep it all in the fridge all week for those tomato sandwiches you'll soon have on repeat.

While you chop the tomato and optional avocado, place the ranch spread in the refrigerator, where it will firm up a bit and the flavors will meld.

Spread both slices of bread with ranch paste and stack the tomato and avocado slices to make your sandwich.

Simple Tips for Making This Delicious Tomato Sandwich

  • Storage: If you store it properly, you can enjoy this tasty combination of flavors for at least five days. Store it in the refrigerator in an airtight container. I noticed that it tasted better after a day or two in the refrigerator. Give it a good stir before using it again.
  • Add fresh herbs: Fresh herbs such as chopped dill, chives or parsley are all easy additions that will work wonders for the sandwich, as fresh herbs always do.
  • Toast the bread: Toast your bread before assembling the sandwich. The texture of the toasted bread will give a new dimension to your sandwich.
