When it comes to cooking, I’m all about keeping it simple. My practical side prefers to stick with tried-and-true tools I’ve been using since culinary school, like a sharp knife and a sturdy cutting board. With these two essentials, there’s no limit to what I can create, and they’d be perfect for any home cook.
Not all cutting boards are created equal, so I wanted to know which cutting board brand my food writer friends prefer. I asked four food writers, and they all pointed to the same brand.

The Cutting Board Food Editors Love Is Under $40
All four of the food writers I spoke with said that The reBoard material is their favorite cutting board, and the good news is that the largest size is only $35. Even better: the board comes in five warm colors that fit perfectly into any kitchen.
“I love “My Material cutting board,” Arie enthuses. “It’s simple, doesn’t warp, and looks great! What more could you want from a cutting board?”
Aside from functionality, sustainability is a big factor for Chandra. “I became interested in Material’s cutting boards after hearing that they were recycled,” she says. “I love that they’re made from recycled plastic and sugarcane.”
Chandra adds, “These are the best plastic cutting boards I’ve used. They hold up well to knife cuts, are dishwasher safe, and are pretty enough to use at a party.”
Myo has been cooking at home and professionally for 20 years, and during that time, she’s been generally disappointed with cutting board options. Then, she says, “I got the Material Mini (re)Board as a gift a few years ago, and it’s the only brand I’ve bought since. I also own the re(Board)—it’s bigger. I like that the surface doesn’t scratch easily, it doesn’t warp in the dishwasher, and it feels and looks solid.”
Sophie also loves the practicality of The reBoard. “It’s rare that I rave about a kitchen item, but I’m really in love with my cutting board set.” Johnson offers all three sizes and says it’s all about the details: “They’re lightweight compared to wooden boards, they’re dishwasher safe, and they don’t slide around on my countertop.”
Just as importantly, Sophie says the colors make these kitchen tools a favorite. “I think they add a nice pop of color to my otherwise neutral kitchen.”
